FAQ
[Material] The membrane of the housing feels soft, so is it easy to break?
The membrane of SeaTouch housing is one of its core patent. It consists of 2 special material -- the bottom film is hard and strong, the upper film is stretchable and tough. The material passes a series of test -- impact test, 100,000-time scratching test, aging test. In some extreme circumstances, like the upper film cut by a knife, the smartphone is still protected by the bottom film.
[Material] Is plastic housing reliable?
Different from common design of big opening, SeaTouch housing’s small opening structure minimize the area of sealing. Also, the special 3-layer sealing gasket, and button-free design keep the housing secure and durable. The housing passes a series of test, such as drop test, aging test and pressure test.
[Material] What is the advantage of plastic housing?
To reduce the burden for divers, the main part of SeaTouch housing is made by engineering plastic, while the key component is 316 stainless steel. The advantage of plastic housing is that it doesn’t block out the smartphone signals, such as wifi, bluetooth. Users are able to make phone call, connect to Internet when the phone has a signal.
[Housing Function] Can it be operated when I wear gloves?
It is operable while wearing wet suit gloves underwater. However, due to most of the dry suit gloves made by insulating material, it has to be a conductive cot (or conductive when it’s wet--such as a cotton cot) on the glove to operate by touchscreen.
[Housing Function] There is no vacuum system in this housing, how to make sure it’s secure?
An important patent of SeaTouch housing is the pressure balance system. The grip of SeaTouch housing contains a physical airbag connected to the housing. At a certain depth, the air would be compressed under water pressure, and pressed into the housing to balance the pressure, which is an opposite logic to vacuum system. However, its special design, small opening, 3-layer sealing gasket and button-free, keeps the housing more secure.
[Housing Function] As air would be compressed under pressure, does the touchscreen still work underwater?
The screen part of SeaTouch housing is a dual-film membrane, and liquid in between. Liquid is non-compressible, so it allows the touchscreen operation underwater.
[Housing Function] Does the housing work up to 80 meters?
As it has been tested by technical diving tester, the touchscreen operation of the SeaTouch 3 Pro housing works even at the depth of 80 meters. However, it is suggested to use above 40 meters because the high pressure could compress the housing to deform, leading the sensitivity to reduce gradually.
[Housing Function] If I change a new phone later, can it still work in this housing?
One of the feature of SeaTouch 3 housing is its modular adaptor for different smartphone. With different adaptor, the housing is universal for a various number of phone model. Users just need to buy a new adaptor to fit in with the new phone.
[Housing Function] Is the housing operated by an App?
No. The feature of SeaTouch housing is full touchscreen operation, which means all the function of the smartphone could be accessed, such as camera, texting, playing music underwater. Also it allows user to access any thirty party photograph Apps to have more fun.
[Housing Function] Is it difficult to maintain? How to maintain it?
It is suggested to soak the housing into fresh water for 20-30 minutes, then rinse to clear the salt and dirt. Put the inner supporter block back to the housing and cover with the membrane protector. Keep the screws of the top cover loose and store it in good condition. The sealing gasket is easy to maintain because of its unique design. It’s easy to be taken off and clean, and no need putting any grease on. Once it’s broken, change to the spare one from the package.
[Smartphone Function] Can I hear the sound from my phone underwater?
Usually smartphone can not receive the mobile signal below about 30cm of the surface, so we are unable to make phone below that. However, the special design of the compact housing and the touchscreen membrane allows you to make phone call when you are on the surface without taking the phone out, in case any emergency.
[Smartphone Function] Why is it suggested to remove the smartphone screen protector film before we put the phone in?
To reduce the possibility of misoperation on the smartphone, and with other limitation, there is a sensitive distance on the screen, however, the distance is different from different brand and even different model from a brand. Already there is a thickness of the membrane itself, with the thickness of the screen protector, the sensitivity of the touchscreen could be lost. (“ Touch Sensitivity” function of Samsung or “Gloves Mode” of Huawei would increase the sensitive distance.) In addition, the thin plastic screen protector could stick on the bottom of the membrane, might cause a problem of phone stuck in the housing.
[Smartphone Function] Can all the cameras on my smartphone be accessed?
Yes. The touchscreen operation of SeaTouch housing allows user accessing to any function of the smartphone underwater, including all the function of the cameras, freely shifting to wide-anlge, telephoto camera, etc. Moreover, user could even use third party Apps for more creative photograph.
[Smartphone Function] Can the smartphone withstand water pressure in the housing?
Since smartphones pass a series of test, such as drop test, impact test, they are already able to withstand a certain pressure. Not only the pressure balance system in SeaTouch 3 Pro deducts a few pressure, but also the membrane distributed the pressure evenly on the smartphone to keep it secure. (It doesn’t work if the phone screen is broken.)
[After-sales] Is the air bubble in the membrane a quality defect?
The air bubble is generated from the liquid in the membrane. During the production, a small volume of air would dissolve into the liquid, and under some circumstances, such as low air pressure on high altitude area or high temperature or after repeated operation, the air would come out from the liquid and gathering to be air bubbles that we see. Storing in low altitude could help the bubbles dissolving again back to the liquid, however, some of the air might not be able to dissolve again. Therefore, this is a normal phenomenon and the air bubble doesn’t affect the housing operation.
[After-sales] I saw some bubbles come from the grip, did it leak?
There is a unique structure in the grip of SeaTouch 3 Pro, the pressure balance system, which needs the water to go inside of the shell to press the airbag. Therefore, it would be some bubble comes out from the grip, but the water doesn’t go into housing.
[After-sales] My smartphone screen was off underwater and I couldn’t turn it on again.
Please check if the smartphone function is well setup according to the guideline, such as turn on Raise to Wake on iPhone or turn off Mistouch Prevention on Android phones. In the housing, some of the Android system smartphone is not able to wake again if the screen is off, so please set the screen sleep time to be NEVER. If there is no NEVER for the option, we recommend some Apps to keep the screen awake. Please install the App and finish setting according the guideline.
[After-sales] Why the touchscreen operation is not as sensitive under water as on land?
Seawater would distract the screen electric field since it is conductive, which makes the touchscreen not as sensitive as on land. Some of the smartphone function would increase the sensitivity, such as Touch Sensitivity of Samsung and Gloves Mode of Huawei. Also, please remove the screen protector before use.
[After-sales] How to avoid fogging in the housing?
Fogging in the housing is usually caused by the moisture of the air in it. When the housing is underwater, liquefaction is occurred by low temperature on the glass. Therefore, it is suggested to install the smartphone in a dry environment, such as an air-con room, and do not open the housing between each dives. If the smartphone is wireless-chargeable, please use a wireless charger to charge the phone to reduce the number of time opening the housing.
[After-sales] My phone is rather big, so some of the corner or edge area is not easy operate.
For some big size smartphone, corner or edge area, like the BACK button on the screen is not easy to touch. So it is suggested to turn on the Virtual Button, such a Assistivetouch of iPhone and Assistant Menu of Samsung.
